***Writers' Corner- Andre Malraux In His Prime

***Writers' Corner- Andre Malraux In His Prime

Click on title to link to Wikipedia's sentry for French writer and politician Andre Malraux.

Markin comment:

Leon Trotsky, early on, praised Malraux's literary talents in "The Conquerors" and "Man's Fate", tales of the Chinese Revolution. He was, and would have been, less enamored of Malraux's later career as Stalin admirer and subsequently in the post World II era a minister of culture under France's strongman Charles DeGaulle. Oh, well, everyone familiar with the biographic sketches of past literary figures knows that that milieu is replete with writers who cannot resist being in the circles of power-no matter the political cost. Still, in his prime Malraux could write thoughtful novels and write circles around most of his contemporaries. Trotsky was not wrong on that score, although he also seemed to be aware of certain moral flabbiness in Malraux. He was not wrong there either.

From The Gals And Guys Who Know The Face Of War Up Close And Personal-The Iraq And Afghan War Veterans

Frank Jackman comment:

In America there is an overweening respect for the military, for military officers mainly, the guys and gals who lead the bloody endless wars of this century. They look good on camera, all austere and all business as they lead the general population by the nose into the next ambush. But starting back in Vietnam, starting back in the war of my generation soldiers, sailors, air personnel, regular rank and file guys (almost all guys then) started balking at their fate. Started to talk back, to say stop the madness. And if they could not do it, or would not, since the choice or the stockade and/or opprobrium back home was a hard fact of life for most working class guys, when they were service-bound they certainly did after they got out. Formed an organization Vietnam Veterans Against the War (VVAW) that did a hell of a lot to bring the anti-war message home. See they had “street cred”,’ they had been in the hellholes and beyond, had come back to the “real world” a lot wiser than the kids who went in with dreams of glory and fistfuls of medals. The guys and gals who fought, and continue to fight don’t forget, the damn Iraq and Afghan wars have that same “street cred.” Listen up, please.

5/1 - May Day on Boston Common - Resist Deportations!-Join The Resistance

Should a classmate be imprisoned and deported if her parents arrived in the
US without proper documentation? If you think not then join us on May Day
and take a stand. The government in Washington has launched a generalized
assault on our lives, rights and living conditions.

From the racist attacks on Muslims, Migrants, and African-Americans to
attacks on healthcare, women, and our environment, working people and youth
are under fire!

Please join us on May Day, International Workers Day, Monday, May 1 at 5:00
PM on the Boston Common. We will be rallying at the Parkman Bandstand and
then we will March to Copley Square. For more information visit
BostonMayDay.org or Facebook at BostonMDC or call 617-230-9382

The government in Washington has launched a generalized assault on our
lives, rights and living conditions. The leading edge of this assault is the
criminalization and attacks on Migrants. The United States is largely a
country of migrants. Migration has been the norm throughout the continent
and world for centuries. Let's stand in solidarity with the working families
who are seeking refuge from wars, violence, and economic devastation. Let us
stand with those who want a better life for themselves and their families.
The time is now to Resist the Deportations!

All working class communities are affected by the campaign against migrants.
Our rights and living conditions fall below many developed countries
precisely because of the divisions we suffer caused by the systemic racism
and xenophobia that continues today in the US. An injury to one is an injury
to all! Let us take our fight to the centers of power.

Science is everywhere. Let's remind our leaders!-Defend The Enlightenment-Join The Resistance

March for Science
Activist--
Welcome to Day Three of the Week of Action - Tuesday’s theme is SCIENCE EMPOWERS! Today, we’re talking about how science is everywhere - it affects the food we eat, the jobs we do, and the ways that we learn about and explore the world around us.
As marchers, it’s important that we make our voices heard not only in the streets, but at the ballot box. Registerto vote, and then take the Environmental Voter Pledge to show your commitment to voting the values you marched for!
In addition to exercising your right to vote, it’s important that we tell our leaders NOW why we marched for science. Today marks the first day of our outreach campaign to our political leaders. Today, let’s reach out as global citizens to Peter Thomson, the President of the General Assembly of the United Nations, to tell him all about why we marched for science. Remember, there are #NoSidesInScience.
Also, take a look at the projects that Cool Effect supports - everything from building clean cookstoves to turning animal waste into fuel - and learn how to reduce your carbon footprint.Take a look at our website foreven more partner-suggested actions for how to stay engaged today and going forward!
Be sure to check out our Facebook page as we feature content from the March for Science around the world.
The march is over, but our work is just beginning - help us continue our mission and build on what we started.Contribute now to help support, grow, and sustain our global movement!

U.S. Missile Madness Hypocrisy

Today the Pentagon
will test fire
a nuclear missile
from Vandenberg AFB
in California
into the Pacific
landing at their
often radiated target
Kwajalein Atoll

Just yesterday
the Pentagon
tried to sneak
the THAAD
'missile defense'
system
in the dark
of night
into the new
base in Seongju,
South Korea
but protesters
were there
along with
a zillion police
pushing them back
Washington
is preparing
for war with
North Korea
because
they dare to test
missiles
and develop nukes

Testing missiles is
not illegal
under international law
the US
and its
double standard
nuclear allies
do it all the time
but North Korea
is not
in the club
thus they are
called rogue

Which nation
is the greater threat?
North Korea
with their pip-squeak
missile and nuclear
capability
or the mighty
USA?

The hypocrisy
is chilling
blinding
nerve wracking
heart stopping
infuriating

The 'exceptional'
Pentagon
moves
the world
step-by-step
closer
to WW III

Today in Washington
Trump
meets with
all 100 US Senators
about Korea
likely
selling war
like he
wheels and deals
one of his
tall towers,
shrines to
arrogance and
madness

Let us hear
your squeaky
voice
now
while
we still
can utter
words
of protest
and
life giving

don't wait
for the flash
and bang
and resulting
silence

Strike and Protest on May 1st in Boston!

An Injury to One is an Injury to All!

We need to disrupt “business as usual” to defeat Trump’s agenda. Working people have the potential power to strike a blow at Trump and his billionaire backers by shutting down their profits on May 1.

Alongside immigrant organizations and labor unions, we will take action against the deportations, Trump’s wall, the Muslim ban, anti-union laws and attacks on women’s reproductive rights. We will oppose any retaliation by employers or schools against workers or students who strike or walk out on May Day.

Join us for this powerful protest on May 1st in Boston!
