UNITE to Mobilize for Peace, Justice and Stopping the Wars

UNITE to Mobilize for Peace, Justice and Stopping the Wars

Statement by United for Justice with Peace (Boston)

UJP calls on the peace and antiwar community to support both local and national protests of the Trump presidency during inauguration week and the women's rights march in January.  We need to oppose racist appointments and many other actions and policies, and promote our alternative vision of peace and social justice.
The 2016 presidential campaign barely mentioned the wars abroad; both candidates had a pro-war stance disregarding considerable public skepticism about the wars.  The massive war economy and war budget is a major contributor to the income inequality that fueled the anger and discontent of much of the electorate, both Democratic and Republican.
UJP continues to stand firmly in opposition to racism, misogyny, homophobia and scapegoating of Muslims and immigrants.  We continue to call for ending the wars, cutting the military budget, eliminating nuclear weapons, peace with Iran and equal rights for Palestinians.  Militarization of domestic police forces against minorities must stop.  The never ending wars over control of fossil fuels accelerate climate change, and dealing with global warming is an urgent priority.
The substantial progressive and left currents at the grassroots were mostly shut out of the election results by an unfair system that primarily benefits the one percent.
Therefore, it is time for the entire movement to come together to make a strong statement to represent the views of the majority of the American people for peace, justice, environmental sustainability and civil rights.
Protests and mass mobilizations are an important and immediate way to convey our message, show our strength and impact public opinion and the political establishment.  We call on the greater Boston community to support both local actions and national protests, respecting the different perspectives and tactics within our movement.  People and organizations should communicate to national level affiliates their desire for collaboration and unified action.
To sustain these efforts in the medium and long term, organizing a progressive and left alternative must be carried out in different ways.  Unity in face of the rightwing offensive will be the key to our victory.
