In Boston- Sunday, June 03 at 11:00 am: Today's China: Xi Jinping's plans for socialism, and the US-China Trade Dispute

*Today's China: Xi Jinping's plans for socialism, and the US-China Trade
Dispute*

China recently announced plans to eliminate poverty by 2020 as it moves
towards socialism, and Xi Jinping has the option of a third term as
president. Meanwhile, new US tariffs may result in a trade war. A slide
show will feature photos of two agricultural cooperatives and a migrant
village, along with Beijing and Shanghai. The presentation will highlight
issues and contradictions of contemporary China: an old culture and society
rapidly developing a modern, mixed economy.

Duncan McFarland has visited China many times; first in 1981 with the
US-China Peoples Friendship Association and most recently in 2017. He is
coordinator of the China Study Group at the Center for Marxist Education,
Cambridge.
