DONATION REQUEST -- Massachusetts Delegation Heads to Congress (June 17-19th) Massachusetts Poor People's Campaign

Massachusetts Poor People's Campaign<massachusetts@poorpeoplescampaign.org>
Dear Massachusetts:

The Massachusetts Poor People's Campaign: A National Call for Moral Revival is stronger than ever! We are heading to Washington D.C. to attend the Poor People’s Moral Action Congress from June 17-June 19, 2019. This is our second trip to Washington, D.C. since 2018. We're going to finish what we started and meet with our nation's leaders about the REAL national emergencies impacting those of us on the ground being affected by the four evils plaguing this nation's soul. Last year, with your donations we were able to rent a charter bus, inviting over 75 concerned citizens, impactors and faith leaders to join us at the “Fight Poverty not the Poor” Rally on the mall in Washington D.C.

We met with today's leaders, shared our stories and worked towards bringing more people this year into our nation’s capital.
With your donation, we are able to do the following:

PROVIDE One hundred dollar ($100) Scholarships for room and board + meals (three) a day for four days at a local college for 15 delegates including middle school students, teachers and parents from Roxbury. With your help, we can provide a 15- passenger van to and from D.C. We cannot do it without your support.

On April 28, 2019 the Massachusetts Poor people’s Campaign participated in the national bus tours. In Boston, we rented a school bus and held a "mobile-teach-in" for the national Truth & Poverty "Spill the Tea" Tour.

For four hours we traveled to impacted neighborhoods to meet with faith leaders, activist, middle school students and parents who gathered and shared their struggles.
Please find some reflections from one of our tour supporter’s.

“Yesterday, I joined the Poor People's Campaign Poverty Tour. It was powerful and very interesting. A great group of people from many walks of life! UUA was a co-sponsor. An 8 year old third grader spoke about the hypodermic needles in her school playground; her mother introduced her to Congresswoman Ayanna Pressley, and the only question she wanted to ask her was... "Can we meet so we can talk about the needles in my school and my neighborhood?" I swear the world is not ready for her.... The city hasn't responded, so parents formed Orchard Gardens United (Facebook page). They are organizing a volunteer clean up. Join them if you can.

Methadone Mile was sobering. An active OD as we passed with police on site. This is across the street from Boston City Hospital and the Suffolk County House of Corrections (also ICE detention center). The city is building raised flower beds on a grass strip behind a chainlink fence alongside Melnea Cass Boulevard. Domingos, one of our tour participants, said he picked up 100s of needles in a few hours - The flowers will put window dressing on the area - an attempt to hide but not address the problem.

Systemic Racism in Boston is graphically alive…."

Please join us in making a difference! Whether you donate: $5, $10, $20, $100 or more, any donation will help make an impact on this important time in history as Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. so eloquently quoted:

The Arc of the moral universe is long and bends toward justice...

Thanks in advance for your donation to this cause that means so much to the nation.

Forward together, not one-step back!
