Chelsea Manning Support Network

Thank You! $87,000 raised for Chelsea Manning's defense!

In July, Pentagon Papers whistleblower Daniel Ellsberg challenged our supporters to raise $100,000 for Chelsea Manning’s legal defense by Sept 1st.
Thanks to you, we raised $87,000!
Although $13,000 short of our original goal, we are thankful to everyone who stepped up to support Chelsea this past month. Your generosity has made it possible for Chelsea’s legal team to get started on their work.
Chelsea has chosen well-known civil rights attorney Nancy Hollander and her law partner Vincent Ward to lead these efforts, and they are eager to begin:
“This appeal is far from a mere formality. We have agreed to devote the significant time and energy that will be necessary for this case only because we believe that we have a chance to reverse her conviction. Appeals are never easy but even at this early stage we know we have many valid issues to work with and we know that if justice prevails, we will win.”

Deadline approaches for army to provide Chelsea gender therapy

"This time last year, I publicly asked that I be provided with a treatment plan, to bring my body more in line with my gender identity. Unfortunately, despite silence, and then lip service, the military has not yet provided me with any such treatment,”
Chelsea Manning. August 22, 2014
Last month, the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) announced that they intend to take legal action if the Defense Department fails to provide Chelsea Manning with proper medical treatment for her previously diagnosed Gender Dysphoria by Sept 4th. The ACLU states that denying Chelsea treatment in accordance with medical protocols is a violation of her constitutional rights.
The ACLU’s Sept 4th deadline is rapidly approaching, with no response from the army thus far.
