Closing arguments Thursday, July 25

Judge Lind drawn by Clark Stoeckley
The trial of Army whistleblower Bradley Manning will open again Thursday at 9:30am for the defense and prosecution to make closing arguments. The judge will rule on two defense motions to dismiss charges in the morning, after which the defense will spar with the prosecution, making its case for acquitting Bradley of ‘Aiding the Enemy’ and other major charges. It will be an especially significant day at Ft. Meade, and Bradley Manning Support Network staff will be in attendance to provide coverage for our website as always.
The judge will likely rule on Bradley's guilt vs. innocence sometime by next Wednesday, July 31, which is when the 2-3 week sentencing phase of the trial is scheduled to begin.

Tell Convening Authority Maj. Gen. Buchanan to free Bradley Manning, July 26!

Maj. Gen. Buchanan
This Friday we'll hold a Mass Demonstration at Ft. McNair in Washington DC from 3-5pm to call upon Convening Authority Major General Buchanan to free Bradley Manning. Location: 4th St and P St SW, near the Waterfront metro, Washington DC
The military justice system dictates no minimum sentence, so as Convening Authority Maj. Gen. Buchanan has wide latitude to decrease a sentence. We believe there are numerous reasons he should step up now to do the right thing and release Bradley.
Amnesty International proclaimed last week that the 'Aiding the Enemy' charge is a travesty of justice. Bradley was imprisoned three years before he was tried, including 9 months alone in a 6x8 ft cell, conditions which the judge determined to be "unlawful pretrial punishment" and which NSA whistleblower Edward Snowden referenced in his pursuit of asylum. Additionally, last Friday the judge permitted a supervisor who'd been disciplined for making homophobic remarks to Bradley to testify for the prosecution after they'd officially closed their argument.
Our DC event will include speakers from the veteran and anti-war communities, banners, protest puppets, noisemakers, and presentation of the 2013 Peace Prize of the US Peace Memorial Foundation to Bradley Manning.
