Dear Peacemaker,
Thank you for your
past support of Veterans For Peace.
Today, on International Human Rights Day, we at VFP remember that there is no activity that violates people’s human rights more than war, and are more determined than ever to show that peace is possible.
Now, at the end of 2015, is a very important time to work for peace. Next year will be the 98th anniversary of the end of the Great War. By its end, much of the world realized that war is not the answer and by 1929, sixty-two nations signed the Kellogg Briand Pact outlawing war with each other.
Unfortunately, humanity has a propensity to forget costly lessons learned by generations that came before. In only a few decades the lesson of the futility of war was lost, and by 1939 WWII was underway killing millions more than WWI. And at the close of 2015, it once again seems the world has forgotten the folly of war and is on the verge of another round of global madness. Your voice as a veterans working for peace is needed. That is why we need you to act NOW!
Veterans For Peace asks you to support our work next year by giving TODAY as we work to show people that Peace is Possible.
We are and will continue to:
- Stand with our Muslim brothers and sisters against the current wave of hate sweeping the land and being cultivated by many politicians
- Resist further escalation and work to end U.S. war making in Syria, Iraq, Afghanistan and around the world
- Support effective alternatives to war to confront ISIL; more war and violence is their strategy
- Remind the world about the Kellogg Briand Pact outlawing war
- Sail the Golden Rule to educate the public about the dangers of nuclear war
- Promote Armistice Day as a day to promote the human desire for peace on Veterans Day, rather than to glorify war
- Make connections with veterans across the globe to build peace between former warriors, and help people see that peace is possible both at home and abroad.
With the drumbeats of war growing louder and the merchants of death playing on people’s fears to push for more war, we must be fearless as veterans working for peace. Our vision and voice for peace has made a difference. We must make a difference again. Our service is needed today more than ever.
