With the 2016 Presidential Election just a few short weeks away, it's time for all American citizens to really think about what steps we want our next President to take. For the next four years (at least), our country will be in their hands, and that will not only affect the lives of Americans, but citizens of the whole world.
As an ally of Global Zero, I'm sure you were just as scared as I was when you heard that Donald Trump had asked a foreign policy advisor that if we have nuclear weapons, why we can't use them. This once again demonstrated Trump's dangerous tendency towards violence, but more importantly, it showed that he has absolutely no idea exactly how dangerous nuclear weapons are for everyone—himself included. Moreover, under our current nuclear policy, if he were to become president, he could have nuclear weapons deployed minutes after being sworn in. Our nuclear policy combined with Trump's impulsivity, nonchalance, and tendency towards violence, are the perfect recipe for a Trumpageddon.
Luckily, there is hope. Global Zero chapters all over the country are using Trump's chilling statement as an opportunity to bring attention to the issue of nuclear weapons with our new No Red Button campaign, which is kicking off in Boston this Sunday with an epic party hosted by our friends at Boloco in Copley Square—and you're invited to join us!
WHAT: Don’t Press the Button kickoff event! We'll be watching two awesome videos about nuclear weapons and talking about how we can get involved here in the Boston area!
WHEN: Sunday, September 25th, 5-7PM
WHERE: Boloco in Copley Square (569 Boylston St, Boston, MA 02116)
For more information about the No Red Button campaign, we encourage you to check it out on Facebook and Twitter, and for more information on nuclear weapons, head over to globalzero.org!
Can't wait to see you there! If you have questions, feel free to email us at globalzeroboston@gmail.com!
