Trump Administration Attacks Our Public Lands

Vet Voice Foundation

Gregl -
Many of us who served overseas in places like Afghanistan, Iraq, Somalia and other troubled lands saw the devastation to the countryside by societies whose economies were extraction based or who were victims of neocolonial assault. Flying low and fast over Iraq and in Afghanistan, I saw some of the most abused terrain I have ever seen. Somalia was no better.
My one sustaining thought was that my country protected its public lands thanks to our Antiquities Act of 1906, established by President Teddy Roosevelt, and our national and state park systems.
But today, our public lands are under attack and the most recent assault is Secretary Zinke's Monuments Review, just signed by President Trump. Two of the targets are Bears Ears and Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monuments with a Trump imposed terrain reduction of 80-90 percent and 40-60 percent respectively. It appears these size reductions are designed to benefit the coal, oil and uranium extraction industries.
"The winners in the president's decision are the fossil fuels industry, giant international coal companies and the pollution industry, " said Utah State Senator Jim Dabakis. "The losers are Utah families, outdoor enthusiasts, hunters, campers, climbers and all who appreciate the unspeakable beauty of our state."
Which is say nothing of the failure to protect Native American heritage so important in the designation of the Bears Ears National Monument.
Make no mistake - if we walk past THIS mistake the assaults on our public lands will continue.
Stand up for the preservation of our public lands and the monuments under attack today by the Trump Administration by co-signing the Vet Voice Foundation message below to President Trump.
"We, the undersigned, call on President Trump to cease and desist in his attack on our public lands and our heritage in order to give yet another boost to the extraction economy. Coal was a great fuel source in the 19th Century. Oil will soon be obsolete. Uranium based energy is the genie we can't put back in the bottle. Protect our public lands and preserve them for all Ameri-cans for recreation and for our veterans to walk off America's wars."
