Hell. No. (Stop Kavanaugh) MoveOn Supreme Court Team

MoveOn Supreme Court Team<moveon-help@list.moveon.org>

Dear MoveOn member,
This is an emergency.
Friday, the Republican majority on the Senate Judiciary Committee voted to advance Donald Trump's Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh's nomination to the Senate floor for a vote.
And MoveOn members are flooding the streets in protest.
We're not giving up. We can still stop Kavanaugh on the floor of the Senate.
Will you chip in $3 to MoveOn's emergency campaign to stop the GOP from ramming through Brett Kavanaugh's nomination?
It's outrageous. We're at risk of backsliding to 1991, to a brutal and shameful time when Anita Hill, a survivor of sexual harassment, was derided and shut down by the Senate Judiciary Committee during Clarence Thomas' Supreme Court nomination hearing.
Hell, no. We won't let it happen again. Not on our watch. The only person who should get shut down is Kavanaugh—which is why MoveOn members are sounding an emergency alarm and working around the clock on the ground and across the airwaves to reach Senators Susan Collins, Jeff Flake, and Lisa Murkowski, who are the three GOP senators most likely to vote no on Kavanaugh and bring this nightmare to an end.
There is an emerging glimmer of hope. Late Friday, as MoveOn members marched on the Senate office buildings in Washington, D.C., brave sexual assault victims inside confronted Senator Jeff Flake in an elevator in a nationally-televised person-to-person moment of reckoning.2 And, just minutes later, Sen. Flake called for an FBI investigation.3
Now, we must keep the pressure on. Twenty-seven years ago, there was no justice for Professor Hill. But there must be justice today. We will not hand a lifetime appointment to our nation's highest court to a sexual predator. We will not go back.
Will you chip in $3 to MoveOn's all-out campaign to stop the GOP from ramming through Brett Kavanaugh's Supreme Court nomination?
On Thursday, Dr. Christine Blasey Ford bravely recounted the sexual assault she suffered at the hands of Kavanaugh. And MoveOn members supported her and fought back against the GOP with everything we had—and we'll continue to do everything we can to make damn sure that a shameful moment in history is not repeated.
MoveOn's team worked through last night. And we will work through the weekend:
  • Ramping up massive, targeted, rapid-response mobilizations in advance of tomorrow's potential first procedural vote by the full Senate to advance the confirmation;
  • Directly supporting and elevating sustained and disruptive tactics in and around the Capitol and Senate buildings, led by women's rights allies and groups of sexual abuse survivors;
  • Driving tens of thousands of phone calls to flood Senate offices via email, social media, text messages, and videos. Yesterday alone, MoveOn members made more than 10,000 phone calls;
  • Mobilizing voters in key states and districts who will make sure that Republicans pay the price for their morally bankrupt and abusive actions around Kavanaugh's nomination.
In the last few days, the political ground has shifted because of massive protests and public outcry, stoked and supported by MoveOn members in every state in the nation, and a monumental movement has arisen amid the agony of what's now happening.
We were not able to block yesterday's Senate Judiciary Committee vote. But we will do everything we can to stop Kavanaugh on the floor of the U.S. Senate. And we will go forward to Election Day, channeling our outrage into electoral wins that will take back our nation's House and Senate from the GOP—a political party willing to give an accused rapist a lifetime seat on the most powerful court in our land.
Thanks for all you do.

Rally Tomorrow (Monday) at City Hall Plaza
Tell Jeff Flake to VOTE NO on Kavanaugh

Monday, October 1, 10:00 AM
City Hall Plaza, Boston
RSVP on Facebook
TOMORROW AT 10 AM, Republican Senator Jeff Flake will be speaking at City Hall.  Join Socialist Alternative and many others to protest the event and demand that Flake VOTE NO on Kavanaugh's appointment to the Supreme Court.

We cannot sit back and wait for the FBI Investigation to take place or for the Democrats to mount an effective resistance, which they have so far been unwilling to do.  The vote being delayed until next week was a victory for the movement and shows our strength.  We need a week of protests and mass action across the country this week to show Congress that we will not accept Kavanaugh as a Supreme Court Justice.

Find the Socialist Alternative table at the rally and make sure to stay for our speech at the end of the rally!

Fri 10/5, 1:30 pm, Harvard Rehire Mayli, Fired for Reporting Sexual Harassment!

Geoff Carens<geoff.carens@gmail.com>
Via  Act-MA <act-ma-bounces@act-ma.org>
Dear All,

This Friday, 10/5 starting at 1:30 pm, supporters of union member Mayli
Shing will gather at the Smith Campus Center, 1350 Mass Ave in Cambridge,
steps from the Harvard Sq Red Line T stop. We will demonstrate
<https://www.facebook.com/events/235287847338173/> to press Harvard to
reinstate Mayli, who was terminated in February in retaliation for
reporting sexual harassment and racism from her boss. Please join us, and
bring your friends!

Background: the University's pathetic excuse for Mayli's termination was
that she allegedly arrived at work 30 minutes *before* her shift, clearly
not even an offense. The real reason was that Mayli dared to speak out
about her boss's degrading, sexist acts and speech and his racist mocking
of her, complaining to responsible parties, ultimately including former HU
Pres Drew Faust. Her true reports brought only retaliation; Mayli was
accused of lying and marched out of the office when she was fired by
uniformed Harvard cops, in front of all her co-workers.  On the date of
HU's new President Bacow's inauguration, we will press Harvard to do the
right thing and re-hire Mayli with a new supervisor and full back pay!

and here

Mayli & her allies *will never give up* until she gets justice. Contribute
