Boston, Mass.-Jan. 10, 2015: This weekend, Jan. 11, marks the 13th anniversary of the opening of the US detention/torture facility at Guantanamo. About 20 people braved the cold temperatures to protest at Park St. in Boston, with speakers detailing the torture of prisoners as well as reading statements and poetry by the prisoners themselves. | |
Protests were held nation-wide this weekend to close down Guantanamo and release the prisoners. In view of the recently released torture documentation by the US, this has further exposed the US barbaric treatment of these prisoners by both th Bush and Obama governments. Here are links, below, to some photos and a video I took at the protest. This space is dedicated to the proposition that we need to know the history of the struggles on the left and of earlier progressive movements here and world-wide. If we can learn from the mistakes made in the past (as well as what went right) we can move forward in the future to create a more just and equitable society. We will be reviewing books, CDs, and movies we believe everyone needs to read, hear and look at as well as making commentary from time to time. Greg Green, site manager
