Every year, you see Memorial Day picnics and BBQs, special Memorial Day sales and promotions, but how are we really remembering those who have sacrificed?
This Memorial day we are thinking #BeyondTheBBQ to remember service members who have lost their lives and bring the collective memory back to Memorial Day. How will YOU go #BeyondTheBBQ?
Workshop facilitator Kevin Basl writes:
“Memorial rituals and funerals create meaning for the living, not the dead. These rituals help us process tragedy and move on, while reminding us that the past is ever present. Memorial Day is no different. It should be a day not only for reflecting on and appreciating those lost during military service, it should also be a time for listening to and helping those veterans struggling with memories of friends lost and lives displaced. How can we learn from their experiences? How can we amplify their voices and strengthen our communities?”
