Veterans For Peace at the Women's March
On January 21st, Veterans For Peace will join the Women’s March on Washington to send a bold message to our new administration on their first day in office, and to the world, that women's rights are human rights. We will march in a contingent of progressive veteran and military family groups, including: IVAW, MFSO, Common Defense, Beyond the Choir and Black Knights Men's Choir.
A central part of the mission of Veterans For Peace is make visible the cost of war. The U.S. military has an epidemic of military sexual trauma. Veterans Affairs report that 1 in 4 women respond "yes," that they experienced MST, when screened by their VA provider. Keep in mind these numbers only reflect women who have chosen to report sexual assault and harassment.
Women face discrimination and harassment around the world in most every society. Veterans For Peace is appalled that the new Commander and Chief and President will be a man who has proven himself to be hostile to women’s rights and shown disregard to understanding his own misogynist behavior. Trump is a reflection that our society must change. We must fight sexism and build inclusive and fair communities. We stand with women at home and abroad for safety, and full access to their human rights.
Will you join us in DC? Fill out this short form to let us know. We will send out more info about the meeting location as the date gets closer.

Remembering Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
Each year, Veterans For Peace has the opportunity to allow the commemoration of Martin Luther King, Jr. to serve as a guidepost for the ways that we are carrying on his legacy—as an organization and more broadly as a peace movement. Peace, social justice and King’s legacy come together as VFP continues to advance the interests of the poor, of the victims of social and racial injustice, and of the victims of violence on all scales. We know that these are all symptoms of endless war-making and military domination.
This MLK weekend, we reflect on what King’s legacy and the movement that he was a part of mean for us at this moment in history. Dr. King's memory has been largely sanitized in popular American culture, with some of his most revolutionary thoughts and words all but wiped from the pages of popular history. Rarely do we hear of his anti-war stance, his work to end poverty or his full vision of racial justice. At this historic moment, when a movement for black lives is raging in our streets and resistance grows to the upcoming inauguration, there is a national call to reclaim MLK's legacy, and remind the world that his vision was larger than what they've been told to imagine, and that it remains unfulfilled. <See Opportunities for Action>
