April 21, come join us in an event to commemorate Hugo Chavez and to show solidarity with the Bolivarian Revolution.
April 11th is a date that will forever be part of the Venezuelan history, as the date the government of Hugo Chavez was toppled illegally by a group of oligarchs and disloyal military officers. From April 11th to April 13th 2002, the Constitution, and the Venezuelan people, were attacked by a well-orchestrated plan that had the backing of international organizations and their governments, including the United States. On the first day, dozens of people were injured and 11 people were killed. After 48hrs loyal officers, with the backing of the People, decided to take to the streets to defend their constitution and to demand the return of their President. With the return of Hugo Chavez to the Presidency, constitutional order returned to Venezuela and a new era began we now call the Bolivarian Revolution.
April 12th is celebrated in Venezuela as day of Popular Communication. Because while the main commercial media showed cartoons, it was the alternative community media channels that reported what was really going on this fateful date. There is a saying in Venezuela now, for every 11th there is a 13th.

Today, Venezuela is again under attack by an international media that acts as the arm of the right wing oligarchs. The U.S. President, Barack Obama renewed the executive order issued last March that declared Venezuela “an unusual and extraordinary threat to the national security and foreign policy of the United States.”

Because of these attacks, the World Peace Council organization, along with other international organizations are calling for a day of solidarity with Venezuela.
