lift the Obama-era ban on mining uranium in the area around the Grand Canyon -- a serious threat to the groundwater and anyone who drinks it.
Instead, we need to demand that the whole area be designated a national monument, thereby protecting it.The mining industries are pushing hard to remove protections from national lands. We need to expand them. The Grand Canyon is an important case.
Past mining operations contaminated the groundwater that many rely on, including the Havasupai people who've lived in the area for generations.
