Tue Oct 30 Justice for Terrence Coleman, Vigil & Speakout 6pm, Peter's Park, South End, Boston
- Tuesday at 6 PM – 7 PM
October 30 marks two years since the night where Boston police officers Kevin Finn and Garrett Boyle shot and killed 31-year old Black man Terrence Coleman in the hallway of his home in the South End of Boston.
The police claim Mr. Coleman had a knife and threatened two police officers and two EMTs. His mother, Hope Coleman, had called for an ambulance for her son and not the police. She was next to him when he was shot and insists Terrence did not have a knife and posed absolutely no threat to anyone. Terrence and his mother were standing in the building hallway, outside of their apartment, with two EMTs when two police officers “just burst in and knocked me down and my son down and I heard a gunshot,” Coleman told reporters. “He did not have a knife.” The officers were outside of the building and burst in after one of the EMTs raised his voice to Terrence after he expressed hesitancy of going in the ambulance.
We believe Hope Coleman. Through countless cases we have all borne witness to across the country, we have come to one conclusion - the police lie. The culture of cover-ups and the blue wall of silence must be exposed and dismantled.
Suffolk County District Attorney Dan Conley refused to file charges against the officers. We demand that the criminal case of BPD officers Kevin Finn and Garrett Boyle be reopened. Much fanfare has been made about the new Black police commissioner William Gross. He can make good on this perception by some by immediately firing officers Finn and Boyle who remain on the force and remain a danger to the community. On April 4 of this year Hope Coleman filed a federal civil lawsuit against these officers, the former police commissioner William Evans and others for the wrongful death of her son.
Join the family for a vigil and speak-out against police brutality as we continue demand justice for Terrence Coleman.
The vigil and speak out will take place at 6pm in Peter’s Park (Terrence Coleman Park), 1277 Washington St, Boston, MA 02128
All Hope Coleman wanted that evening was help for her son, who had been living with schizophrenia for a number of years. So she called mental health staff and later 911 for an ambulance. Instead, the police responded and rather than help Terrence and his mother, the Boston Police killed him.
+ Re-open the case of the shooting death of Terrence Coleman!
+ Stop the harassment and intimidation of the Coleman family!
+ Indict BPD officers Kevin Finn and Garrett Boyle!
+ Immediately fire BPD officers Kevin Finn and Garrett Boyle!
+ Immediate financial compensation to the Coleman family for the wrongful death of Terrence Coleman!
