ACTION ALERT: Join Fair Food Nation in calling for “No More Frosty Hearts” from university leaders doing business with Wendy’s by sending Valentines this week!
This morning, the Student/Farmworker Alliance put out a call to action for not only students, but all members of the #FairFoodNation, to get geared up for the 4 for Fair Food Tour by sending a very special Fair Food Valentine this week!
By this Friday, February 15th, students and Fair Food supporters across the country will be sending creative Valentines to ask these university leaders to show some heart and end their toxic relationships with Wendy's. UNC, Michigan, OSU, UF: You can do better! It's time to move on.
Year after year, students and youth across the country have asked Wendy’s to “be ours” and make a real, lifelong commitment to farmworker justice. Since the launch of the national boycott in 2016, the SFA network has called it quits with Wendy’s, producing creative breakup videos, and even doing heartache-filled theater pieces with engagement and marriage scenes in local restaurants from coast to coast.
In December, news broke in Immokalee that from March 2-14, farmworkers will be embarking on a national tour to four of the country’s major state universities – the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill, the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, Ohio State University in Columbus, and the University of Florida in Gainesville – to join students and community members to call on these flagship institutions to end their relationships with Wendy’s until the fast-food giant joins the award-winning Fair Food Program. Young people, community leaders, and farmworkers are demanding that, instead of cheap “4 for $4” deals, Wendy’s put human rights on the menu.
This Valentine’s Day weekend, leading up to the CIW’s “4 for Fair Food Tour”, we’re calling on students – and everyone across the #FairFoodNation! – to mail valentines to the leaders of the four universities featured on the tour by this Friday, Feb. 15, demanding that they thaw out their frosty hearts and end business ties with Wendy’s. And make sure to pair your creative Valentine mailing with a social media post to put those universities on blast, to amplify your support for swiftly growing student-led movement to “Boot the Braids” from campus, and finally, to show your love for farmworker justice!
In this guide, you’ll find sample language to put together a Valentine and optional letter, Valentine templates, and information about where and how to mail your Valentines. Join us in sending a wave of Fair Food love to warm these university leaders’ stone-cold hearts by Friday, Feb. 15 — and start getting pumped for the 4 for Fair Food Tour!
