In re: Press Release- Shea Family Solidarity Statement

Date: July 6, 2012

The Keating For Congress Committee today has announced that 2nd New Hampshire Congressional District Independent candidate and Socialist Alternative activist Daniel Keating has endorsed, and proudly stands in solidarity with, the efforts of the Shea Family of North Weymouth, Massachusetts, their friend s and neighbors, Occupy Quincy and Occupy Weymouth activists, and others to fight the pending foreclosure auction of their home scheduled for July 17th.

Mr. Keating, as a social activist in New Hampshire for the past several years, has in his travels around the 2nd District heard of many, too many cases, similar to the Shea case. Mr. Keating is painfully aware of the countless examples of those who have been subject to snap foreclosures, of those “under water,” of those who have been taken advantage of by the banks and mortgage companies, large and small, and their outrageous predatory interest rates. And also of those hard-working working people who have deprived themselves and their families of other necessities in order to pay the mortgage, and of those who cannot even dream of owning a home in this toxic housing environment.

Danny Keating says enough. It is time to fight back, to organize against the dead of night and hide behind closed doors banks and their fiendish agents- one house at a time, if necessary. The efforts of his fellow Socialist Alterative activists in Occupy Homes in Minneapolis where there have been several successful anti-foreclosure actions and the upcoming Shea case can serve as models for many hard-pressed working people to fight to keep their homes, and their dignity. Danny, if elected to Congress, on Day One will use his offices to force a stop to the foreclosures in the district, to work for a nation-wide moratorium, and to hold the banks and other lenders accountable under a very close microscope for the monstrous deceitful actions of past several years, both before and after the housing market bubble burst.

With over two million foreclosures reported nationally over the past period, an almost equal number now in the court system pipeline and many home-owners “under water” the seemingly endless nightmare of the housing crisis will be with us for many years. However, unlike some natural disaster which we have no control over, this crisis was man-made.

The now familiar popular refrain of the last year of protests, “Banks got bailed out, we got sold out,” has caught the gist of the problem. Not only did the “too big to fail” banks and corporations get bailed out (with perks intact) after looting the economy at their pleasure but their government merely “slapped their hands” with a puny 25 billion dollar settlement for the trillions of dollars of financial, economic, and emotional damage they have done to working people. This has added insult to injury while the Wall Street elite laugh about their good fortune over cocktails in their high-rise executive suites.

So while today we need to fight, desperately need to fight, foreclosures one house at a time over the long haul we need to establish financial institutions controlled by working people not by CEOs, their boards, and their governmental agents, a vast program of governmental assistance to those in economic distress not just with their home troubles but with decent jobs and quality education as well. Most of all we need a workers ‘party that fights for our interests. Those are just some of the things that Danny Keating wants to fight, fight like the devil for. Elect Danny Keating To Congress. Victory To The Shea Family! Stop All Home Foreclosures Now!

In re: Press Release- Welcome Home Paraded In Portsmouth, N.H. on July 8, 2012

Date: June 22, 2012

The Keating For Congress Committee today has announced that 2nd New Hampshire Congressional District Independent candidate and Socialist Alternative activist Daniel Keating joins in efforts by fellow 2nd District citizens and all New Hampshire citizens to pay a “Welcome Home” tribute for retuning Iraqi and Afghan War veterans in Portsmouth on July 8, 2012. Danny Keating, himself an Iraqi War veteran, while, perhaps, having political differences with some of the organizations and individuals who have helped organize the event around those war can agree with one Veteran For Peace member that we can “pay tribute to the common soldier who did his or her duty as they saw it, if not the cause.”

Danny Keating, while paying tribute to his fellow veterans, notes that while a one time “welcome home” event is a worthwhile endeavor the problems of returning veterans (and of serving soldiers as well) have not adequately been addressed by either Bush or the Obama administrations. He calls, first and foremost, for the immediate unconditional withdrawal of all U.S./Allied troops from Afghanistan. And to use those war funds to provide veteran services from A to Z. Moreover, Danny Keating in travelling around the 2nd district and other locales talking to veterans, has become painfully aware that from Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) to the struggle to adjust to the “real world” to getting jobs, education and decent, affordable housing, to the mounting (and appalling) evidence of extraordinarily high suicide rates and other maladies returning Iraqi and Afghan War veterans have not been provided governmental services commensurate with their sacrifice.

Danny Keating, if elected, from Day One in office pledges to use his 2nd District offices as virtual adjuncts to the Veterans Administration. Further he will fight for massive job, housing, educational and other appropriate services programs for his fellow Iraqi (and Afghan) veterans, all veterans, and all citizens of the 2nd district. Vote Keating For Congress!

Finally, A Refreshing Change From The Republicrats-Socialist Alternative’s Danny Keating Throws His Hat in the Ring in New Hampshire's Second Congressional District

Press Release

Independent Candidate Danny Keating For U.S. Congress In New Hampshire's Second Congressional District

Mr. Daniel “Danny” Keating, a construction worker and Iraq War Army Veteran raised in Nashua, has filed papers with and has been officially notified of his status as a candidate, pending getting the requisite number of petition signatures, by the New Hampshire Secretary Of State’s Office to run as an independent candidate against incumbent Republican Congressman Charles Bass his 2012 Democratic Party opponent, Ann Kuster. If elected to Congress Mr. Keating will accept the wages of an average worker in New Hampshire and donate the rest of his salary back to social justice causes. Danny is a member of Socialist Alternative and has worked tirelessly on campaigns for workers' rights and against budget cuts. Danny will bring the voice of the 99%, into a Congress that is dominated by corporations and big money.

Here are Danny's remarks made at the opening event of his campaign:

I am running for Congress as an Independent and a member of Socialist Alternative because the two parties of big business, Democrats and Republicans, have carried out deep and unfair budget cuts, stepped up attacks on civil liberties and immigrant rights, assaulted women's core rights to control their bodies and their lives, and have let further corporate control in this country go on unfettered. These are all symptoms of a sick and unresponsive system.

Trillions, yes trillions, of dollars have been handed over by the federal government to the big banks that have thoughtlessly and viciously kicked people out of their homes, scandalously dodged their taxes and helped to wreck the American and global economy. Both parties, controlled by big business, are complicit in the corporate domination of politics and our lives.

I propose some alternatives to the chaos churned out by Wall Street and Washington. We need a massive job creation program to hire workers at union wages with full benefits and rights in order to rebuild infrastructure, stop environmental destruction, and provide necessary social services. We could pay for this by closing corporate tax loopholes and increasing taxes on corporations and the top 1% as well as slashing spending on the wars and occupations in Iraq and Afghanistan. If corporations threaten to take their operations off-shore (like many have already done) in response to paying their fair share then we should take those companies' resources into public ownership with democratic workers' and community control and management using the resources for the benefit of all.

We can only win a jobs program through mobilizing a massive movement of community groups, political organizations, and unions that protest, educate and build democratically-run organizations. A mass movement for jobs and services and against racial injustice, sexual inequality, seemingly never-ending layoffs, unconscionable home foreclosures and drastic budget cuts should be connected to a political struggle against the two parties and the corporate domination they represent. We need a party of working people, run democratically, with elected representatives who are accountable to working people and are pledged to accept only the wage of the average worker.

Elected representatives of the two major parties, having long been left to their own devices, have not created progressive social and economic change. We saw this after the elections of Barack Obama in 2008 and the Tea Party-dominated Congressional agenda in 2010. To get real change we need a big protest movement. This type movement has created change in the past: from the labor movement for unionization and a 40-hour work week to the civil rights movement against racial injustice to the women's movement for equal rights mass demonstrations have shown that direct action can win real victories. If I am elected to Congress I will be a voice for these struggles against the capitalist system and for a better future democratic socialist society.
