STOP THE DRIVE TO PUSH SUPREME COURT FURTHER RIGHT A chill was sent down the spines of millions of Americans, women in particular, when Anthony Kennedy announced his resignation from the Supreme Court in June. This acute fear is due to the prospect of another seat on the Supreme Court being handed to a Trump appointee. In particular it would represent a direct threat to set back women’s rights given Trump’s deal with the Christian Right to dismantle Roe v. Wade.
As contract negotiations stalled in early June, members of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters (IBT) employed at United Parcel Service (UPS) voted overwhelming to authorize their Bargaining Committee to call a strike should no deal be reached. With a YES vote of 93% in the package division and 90% in the freight division, rank-and-file Teamsters sent a clear message that they are willing to fight to protect and advance their working conditions.
