Courage to Resist
Help us record & share the history of GI resistance!
This year marks 50 years since some of the most important GI resistance actions against the US war in Vietnam. To mark the high point of the Vietnam era GI resistance movement, Courage to Resist has been producing a podcast series in collaboration with the Vietnam Full Disclosure effort of Veterans For Peace.
So far, we’ve been able to bring you first-hand accounts from Zels JohnsonHal MuskatMichael UhlDavid CortrightAndy BermanMike WongDoug RawlingsPatrick McCannGene MarxPaul CoxRandy Rowland, and Keith Mather. However, we’ve run out of money, and really need your help to complete this project.
Here’s the folks whose history won't be recorded, unless we can raise the remaining $4,000 for our podcast team, editing, transcription, and publishing: Susan Schnall, Ray Parrish, Buff Parry, Gerry Condon, Ray Cage, John Ketwig, Steve Morse, Jan Barry, Daniel Lavery, Mike Ferner, Mike Dempsey, John Catalinotto, Ward Reilly, and Al Glatkowski.
Zels JohnsonPodcast: “I refuse to be [used] against people who dissent” – Zels Johnson
“It’s very hard, and I think that’s what’s going on to this very day. Even what happened at Kent State. It’s very hard for people to believe that their country would try to kill them.”  In the months leading up to the Kent State killings, National Guardsman Zels Johnson resisted training to kill protesters. This Courage to Resist podcast was produced in collaboration with the Vietnam Full Disclosure effort of Veterans For Peace. Listen to Zel Johnson's story.

Chelsea Manning’s legal team this week requested a hearing to challenge the $440,00 fine that Judge Trenga imposed upon her, in addition to another 16 months of incarceration. Last month Chelsea declared, “Despite the heartbreak and hardship, cooperation with this grand jury is simply not an option. Doing so would mean throwing away all of my principles, accomplishments, sacrifices, and erase decades of my reputations—an obvious impossibility.” As she can only be jailed for 18 months total, even if in contempt of multiple grand juries, Chelsea should get two months jail time credit for the last stint in the Alexandria, Virginia detention center. "Free Chelsea Manning - WikiLeaks Grand Jury Resister" shirts, buttons, and banner, available from Left-Together.com.
