Dear Cole,
American are increasingly aware—and anxious—about the risk of a conflict or misunderstanding escalating into nuclear war... and for good reason. As episodes of CBS's Madam Secretary have portrayed, U.S. “launch-under-attack” policy gives the president the sole authority to launch hundreds of nuclear weapons within minutes, making the risk of a catastrophic miscalculation all too high.Current U.S. nuclear policy also allows the president to order the first use of nuclear weapons—even against non-nuclear threats.Nuclear scientists, experts, and former U.S. defense officials agree that adopting a policy of “no first use” would reduce the risks of accidental nuclear escalation. This is a policy long-advocated by the Arms Control Association and our supporters—like you.We don't believe that the Trump administration will support changing outdated nuclear launch policies, but leaders in Congress and the next administration can and must if we are to reduce the nuclear danger. We need your help to build support for this now.Click below to urge your Representative to co-sponsor H.R. 4415 and help us make it "the policy of the United States not to use nuclear weapons first"—before it is too late.
Tell Congress: No First Use of U.S. Nuclear Weapons
Thank you,
Daryl G. Kimball,
Executive Director
